SOS - Children's Village

SOS Children's Village Santo approximately 12 kilometres from the centre of town on the road to the Dominican Republic.The largest Haitian Children's Village houses 193 children aged between a few months and 17 years old in a total of 19 houses.

Santo, the names comes from a former sugar cane plantation from the
colonial days, was renovated between 1982-84 and was opened by the father of the SOS Children's Village Hermann Gmeiner on the 17th of April 1985.

The kindergarden with 93 children in 3 groups and an 8 year Hermann Gmeiner Primary and secondary school with 270 pupils offers the children a chance to integrate with other children as the majority of the pupils come from the surrounding area.

The village choir, led by the kindergarden teacher, not only sings at
village festivals but also at external festivals and has many appearences on national Tv.
